Yugioh Negate the Activation of Continuous but Don t Destroy

Alright, my question is whether cards like Divine Wrath, Gladiator Beast War Chariot, and Evolzar Dolkka can negate the effects of cards such as Sangan, Nimble Momonga, and Giant Germ.

My argument is that none of these three cards can negate effects from the graveyard because to negate an effect it must also destroy the card that activates the effect. Since all three of the latter cards are in the graveyard by the time their effects activate, none of the former cards' effects can resolve because they cannot destroy a card already resolved in the graveyard. That would be like if I shuffled five cards into my deck with Pot of Avarice and refused to draw two cards (a terrible example but it's the best I can come up with). You can't have your cake and eat it too.

Also, I would like to assert that many of the people whom my friend or I have spoken to that say these cards can negate card effects in the graveyard are biased in that they play Gladiator Beasts; if you play Gladiator Beasts or use the former mentioned cards, I would ask that you take a fresh look at this proposition.

There are times where cards that say 'and' must be able to do both. But there are also times where the card will just resolve as best it can.
The wording on those cards are bad, and their not the only ones. Those can negate Sangan, Nimble Momonga and Giant Germ. You should check the rulings page for cards like those to see how it works.

That's the problem – I already have. I spent the last hour or so reading all the rulings on these cards and cards related to these cards and found NOTHING. The only rulings I found related to these cards were either from external forums or marked as "unofficial Upper Deck Entertainment". Would Problem-Solving Card Text be related to this issue? Also, if there are cards that contain 'and' but cannot resolve the second condition I would ask for several examples. As a programmer, this is called short-circuit evaluation, but I do not think such a thing would apply to Yu-Gi-Oh! –Pat Peter 08:33, January 1, 2012 (UTC)
"Previously Official Rulings" are still correct, except when Konami has given new rulings which contradict them. However, in this case, Konami has even provided rulings which support them, so they are correct. E.g.
@ Card Rulings:Divine Wrath: If "Sun Dragon Inti" is on the field or in the Extra Deck during the Standby Phase then its effect to Special Summon "Moon Dragon Quilla" activates and "Divine Wrath" is Chained, the effect is negated but "Sun Dragon Inti" is not destroyed. [1]
@ Card Rulings:Stardust Dragon: Suppose that the effect of "Stardust Dragon" is Chained to "Mystical Space Typhoon", and then "Emergency Provisions" is activated at Chain Link 3 by sending "Mystical Space Typhoon" to the Graveyard. In this case, "Stardust Dragon" cannot destroy "Mystical Space Typhoon", but "Stardust Dragon" still negates its activation, and you can still Special Summon "Stardust Dragon" from your Graveyard during the End Phase. [2]
Also, the people who wrote the lores for the cards probably aren't programmers.

Ah, I didn't look at the card rulings on Stardust Dragon, but I don't know how I missed that ruling on Divine Wrath. I thought I read that entire page.
Anyway, the ruling I was talking about earlier that came closest was this:
Card Rulings:Vampire Lord: Divine Wrath: You can activate "Divine Wrath" when "Vampire Lord"...activate their effects in the Graveyard, and their effects are negated and they are not Special Summoned; but because they cannot be "destroyed" while in the Graveyard, they are not destroyed by a card effect so their effect will not activate again.
I didn't count it for the reason previously given. Anyway your two rulings cleared up this issue for me and my friend. Thank you. –Pat Peter 17:55, January 4, 2012 (UTC)
You don't really need to read the whole page. On browsers, there should be a Find function somewhere. Most of the time, the shortcut is Ctrl+F.
I just used it to find "t destroy" and only read the lines where it found can not/cannot/can't/not destroy.
